Proton and Perodua free retrofit car with seat belt

ok.. i know i a bit lousy in updating this blog but i try my best~
As everyone know, beginning 1January 2009, all the occupants in a car should buckle up their seat belt.. Some car got this rear seat belts and some dont... Our proud national car company: proton and perodua will provide their free service to install seat belts to (proton and perodua) car owners. I got some information here hope this will help:

Perodua

-Free service will begin on Dec 15 at all 43 Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd branches nationwide and run for three years. For more information, call 1800 88 6600 ( Monday - Friday : 8:30 AM - 5:30PM )

-It is compulsory for all three rear passengers to buckle up.

-The Act will come into force on Jan 1. Car owners will have a 3-year grace period to get rear seat belts installed.

-Customers are encouraged to make an appointment to avoid delays. Each retrofit will take 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the model.

-Cars that have been fitted with rear seat belts will receive a compliance sticker with special security features.

--Perodua Kancil and Kenari cars manufactured in 1998 and until mid-2004 will be exempted from the compulsory backseat belt rule.

-"Those who own cars that cannot be fitted with rear seat belts must bring their cars in to obtain an exemption sticker," said Corporate Planning Department deputy general manager Abdullah Mohd Omar at the Road Safety Department yesterday.

Proton

-National carmaker Proton Holdings Bhd today announced a nationwide exercise costing RM7.3 million to fit rear centre seat belts for 225,930 cars it manufactured between 2004 and 2008.

-The affected models, which were not pre-fitted with the centre seat belts, are the earlier Proton Saga model made between 2004 and 2008 (144,000 units), and the Gen2 model between 2004 and June 2008 (81,930 units).

-Although the ruling is expected to be enforced beginning January 1 next year, car owners are given a three-year grace period to comply.

-Car owners are advised not to rush to the service centres as the installation will only be carried out upon prior appointment.

-The exercise to retrofit the cars will begin on Dec 1, 2008, for Peninsular Malaysia and Jan 1, 2009, for Sabah and Sarawak.

-Proton is expected to take about 13 months to complete the retrofitting exercise and the retrofitting service will be available at all Proton Edar Sdn Bhd and Edaran Otomobil Nasional Bhd (EON) service branches, as well as all service dealers nationwide.

-To make appointments, customers can call the nearest service outlet. For information on service outlet locations and contact details, they can call the Proton i.care toll-free number 1300-880-888.

-Alternatively, customers can register for an appointments via Proton Edar’s website at www.proton-edar.com.my.

-Proton advsied customers to write down their car chassis number and the preferred colour before making an appointment either by phone or online registration.

-Retrofitting work will take about 20 minutes per car.
